The Combustion Research Facility group has continued its studies, focusing largely on low-temperature combustion diesel, which many researchers believe could lead to a new generation of cleaner heavy-duty and light-duty diesel engines that may not require costly, complex exhaust aftertreatment systems.

In the diagram below, characteristics of the conventional diesel combustion process are compared to those of low-temperature combustion.

With the launch of this second engine (the first being the Energy TCe 115), the Energy TCe family marks a fresh development in Renault’s petrol engine strategy and is expected to account for 85% of the brand’s petrol engine sales in Europe by 2015.

This engine delivers 90 hp at 5,000 rpm and torque of 135 Nm available across a broad rev-band, delivering smooth response from low engine speeds.

Its fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are slashed by 25 % (in NEDC combined cycle) compared to the engine it replaces.

Hello

Engineering engines for optimum efficiency is more important to automakers than ever before, as fuel economy and emissions regulations intensify.

Fiat’s production Multiair system proves a combination af advanced engine technologies can improve overall engine efficiency, particularly in reducing pomping loss.

DSM together its automotive component specialist partner KACO has taken an important step in improving fuel efficiency in cars.
The two companies have developed a lightweight multi-functional crankshaft cover in EcoPAXX, a bio-based PA 410 from DSM, for the latest generation of diesel engine developed by VW Group.
This part incorporates integral seals in PTFE and LSR, as well as metal inserts.
Compared with covers made of aluminium, its cost is strongly lower, thanks to an integrated, fully automated production cell for the component at KACO.
