Great Wall will start production at its new Russian factory in 2019
The Chinese manufacturer Great Wall will start production at its new Russian plant in 2019. The plant will be located in Tula, a town in southwestern Russia, 200 kilometers south of Moscow, with a production capacity of 75,000 vehicles a year, much larger than that of Lovech in Bulgaria, which closed in 2016, after four years of activity. Great Wall has also announced that in case of high demand, the capacity of the Tula plant could be doubled, and thus reach 150,000 vehicles per year. The Chinese manufacturer is working on this very optimistic scenario considering:

1. the growth of the Russian market for the years 2019-2024.
2. the increase in SUV market share in the Russian market during this period of growth.
3. the preference of the Russian clientele for the acquisition of inexpensive but reliable SUVs like the Great Wall Haval.

Haval is the SUV division of the Great Wall Group, which now offers a range of models, the H1, H2, H5, H6, H7, H8, H9 which account for most of the million sales made in China last year. The manufacturer will be spoiled for choice for the model or models that will be manufactured in the Tula plant. In 2017, Great Wall sold 1,894 vehicles in Russia including 1,444 Haval H6, 234 Haval H2, 180 Haval H9 and 36 Haval H8. Haval H6 could be the first model made in Tula in 2019.
