Context
- The Volkswagen Group in China comprises four brands: Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and Jetta . Jetta is the group's most affordable brand and is based on slightly modified Seat models. However, until now, no Jetta model has been offered with a fully electric powertrain, which could pose a problem in the medium term, given that fully electric vehicles are expected to represent 30% of the Chinese market by 2026. The brand's objective is to sell 400,000 to 500,000 cars per year with five new models by 2028.
- Volkswagen has therefore decided to create the first all-electric Jetta , the Jetta X, whose concept will be presented at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show and which has nothing to do with Seat models. The Jetta brand's positioning means that this electric model will be one of the least expensive on the market. The price is expected to be around €12,500.
- However, this new model will be reserved for the Chinese market (the Jetta brand does not exist in Europe).
