Fiat is going to build a new factory in China with GAC
 

The Chinese joint venture Fiat-Chrysler withChinesecarmaker GAC (Guangzhou Automotive Corporation) is in the process of making an investment of nearly 600 million euros in Canton (Guangzhou)to build a plant with a production capacity of 160 000 vehicles per year.


Fiat wouldproduce off-road as well as cars withlowconsumption (small cars and electric cars), categories of high sale potential by manufacturers in China.


The Italian group has already a production site in China, Changsha (Hunan province of China), where are manufacturedViaggio sedans (segment C). Fiat produced 13,505 units in the plant in 2012 (against 0 in 2011) and 25,507 in the first eightmonths of 2013, which corresponds to a rate of 40,000 throughout the year.


Let us recallthat in this plant in Changsha, Fiat plans to produce Jeep cars. It couldbe the recent Cherokee unveiledthissummer, or a smaller Jeep derivedfrom the 500 X which are to beunveiled in 2014.


According to ourlatest information, future Jeep modelswillbeassembled in the factory in Changsha and wouldsharetheirplatformwith the Fiat Viaggio, whichmightsuggestthatthiswouldbe the recent Cherokee.


For now, Chrysler Group cars are not produced in China.
