Opel launches the new generation Zafira

In order to replace its compact MPV Zafira (whose launch dates  back to 2011), Opel has acted in the same way as for the replacement of its Corsa in 2014. It has kept the same platform as the old model’s one,  while however providing enough cosmetic changes in the body so that the new model can be clearly  differentiated from the old one.

The new generation of the compact MPV Zafira (which is not any more named ZafiraTourer), launched in 2016, is scheduled for a career of four to five years, while it could have been assumed, on the basis of the 2015 production figures, that this model would be  abandoned without descendants.

Finally, in the same way as  Renault, Opel decided to include  in the C segment the widest possible range of vehicles to cover the largest share of this segment: a compact MPV (Zafira), a compact SUV (name yet unknown), a compact sedan (Astra) and a compact station wagon (Astra Tourer).

The new Zafira will, as previously, be manufactured in Rüsselsheim (Germany) at the rate of 60,000 units per year on average, while the future compact SUV will be produced in Peugeot Sochaux (France). The Astra is produced on two different sites: Gliwice (Poland) and Ellesmere Port (England).
