Mercedes has Regained its Position as Best Selling Premium Brand in 2016
- In 2016, Mercedes was the first premium brand in terms of worldwide sales,with 2,089,000 vehicles sold, ahead of BMW (2,003,000 units) and Audi (1,871,000 units).
- Other premium brands with more than 100,000 annual salesare Volvo (435,000 units), Mini (360,000 units), Porsche (238,000 units ) and Jaguar (149,000 units ).
- Expanding the scope to American or Asian premium brands , we find Lexus (678,000 sales), Cadillac (310,000 sales), Infiniti (230,000 sales), Acura (190,000 sales) and Lincoln (130,000 sales).
- Tesla, DS, Alfa-Romeo and Maserati make less than 100,000 annual sales each, as does the Korean Genesis (Hyundai-Kia Group).
- In total, premium brands sold just over 9.5 million vehicles worldwide in 2016, representing 10% of total vehicle sales last year.
- Mercedes achieved 22% of world premium car sales in 2016, ahead of BMW (21%), Audi (20%), Lexus (7%), Volvo (6%), Land Rover (5%),Mini (4%) Cadillac (3%) Porsche (2.5%), Infiniti (2.5%), Acura (2%), Jaguar (1.5%) and Lincoln (1.25%). The other Premium brands realize less than 1% of the Premium market each.
- Mercedes had already been the first Premium brand in 2010, and beforehand in 2006.
