Context

The Beijing Motor Show 2026 will be the occasion for the first presentation of the Porsche Cayenne Electric SUV, one of the most powerful SUVs currently in the history of the automobile.
Porsche (the Volkswagen Group's luxury sports brand) has been struggling in China for several years. Its cars are not produced in China but imported from Europe (Germany and Slovakia). Sales have declined steadily since 2021 due to competition from Chinese premium carmakers that offer nearly the same quality for significantly less.
From 95,671 cars sold in China in 2021, Porsche sold 93,286 in 2022, 79,283 in 2023, 56,887 in 2024 and 41,938 in 2025. The decline in sales is significant (-56% in four years).
In a highly electrified Chinese market (29% BEVs in the first quarter of 2026), the electric Porsche Taycan and Macan have not achieved the expected success and the launch of the Cayenne Electric in 2026 seems like a long shot.
