2018 Geneva MotorShow - Mercedes
Mercedes A Class

Mercedes presents the fourth generation of its C-segment sedan, the A-Class. This model rivals the BMW 1 Series and Audi A3, which will be renewed next year. The new model is expected to sell 250,000 copies a year, given a European market that is expected to stabilize.

The new Mercedes A-Class is based on the MFA2 platform (which is an evolution of the MFA) and its engines will be as follows: a 1330cc 4-cylinder gasoline engine developing 163 hp (Renault engine), a 2000cc 4-cylinder gasoline engine developing 224 hp, a 4 cylinder diesel 1500cc developing 116hp (Renault engine).

The new Mercedes A-Class will be produced in the German factory in Rastatt. It will soon be supported by new generations of Class B and CLA, as well as an SUV called GLB.

Mercedes CLS

Mercedes introduces the third generation of the CLS which is between the E-Class and the S-Class in the manufacturer's range. This model competes with the Audi A7 Sportback and BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé.

The new CLS will try to boost the sales of this family of models which peaked in 2005 (first generation), with a peak production of 53,000 units, but then experienced a clear slump (30,000 units in 2014, 20 000 units in 2017), due to the decline of sports-oriented sedans (the Audi A7 and BMW 6 Series are experiencing the same trend) in the face of competition from SUVs that are attracting more customers, and the traditional sedans that have recently been renewed (Mercedes E-Class, BMW Series 5). This model will not benefit from the V8 engines that will be exclusive to AMG GT Sedan. The AMG GT is actually the sporting version of the CLS. Inovev expects a production of 25,000 annual units of this new CLS.

Mercedes AMG GT 4 Door Coupé

Mercedes presents the 4-door version of the AMG GT, which until now has been available only in coupe and cabriolet versions.

This new model - that competes a little with the Mercedes CLS presented in the same show - is one of the fastest sedans in the world (300 km/h).

BMW will launch an 8 Series Gran Coupe next year, capable of competing with the AMG sedan. A concept anticipating this Series 8 Gran Coupe is presented at the same show.

Inovev forecasts a production volume of 2,500 units per year of the new AMG GT 4-door, which will be marketed from summer 2018.
