The Toyota Group has sold nearly 11 million hybrid cars since 1997
The Toyota Group (Toyota, Lexus) has sold nearly 11 million hybrid cars (90% Toyota and 10% Lexus) worldwide since 1997, when the first Prius was launched. This group thus accounts for 83% of cumulative sales of hybrid cars across all brands between 1997 and 2017.

The most popular cars over this twenty-year period were the Toyota Prius (6.5 million units in all versions), which account for 64% of Toyota's global hybrid engine sales. Next are the Toyota Camry Hybrid (553,000 units), Toyota Corolla Hybrid (468,000 units), Lexus RX (373,000 units), Toyota Yaris (352,000 units), Toyota Auris (311,000 units), Lexus CT (233,000 units) ) and Toyota CHR (196,000 units). These seven models account for 24% of Toyota's hybrid-engine sales, and 92%  when you include the Prius.

Since 2013, the Toyota group has sold nearly 1.2 million hybrid cars each year, which is between 11% and 12% of its annual production during this period.

In recent years, the Toyota Group has faced increased competition in the hybrid vehicle market, but also in the field of plug-in hybrids and electric cars, where Toyota is not very present. That's why Toyota has announced that it will expand its range to plug-in and 100% electric models.
