BEVs and PHEVs production in Europe in the first half of 2021
The production volume of light vehicles (PCs + LCVs) in Europe 30 countries (EU + United Kingdom + Norway + Switzerland) reached 7,166,020 units in the first half of 2021, compared to 5,420,674 in the first half of 2020, which represents an increase of 32% from one year to another, being understood that the 2020 year (and particularly the first half of the year) had been handicapped by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Of this total, electrified vehicles (battery electric - BEV, hybrids-HEV and plug-in hybrids-PHEV) represented 850,566 units in the first half of 2021, against 343,056 in the first half of 2020, up 148%. This quantity is equivalent to 12% o the f European production in the first half of 2021 (compared to 6% in the first half of 2020 and 9% for the whole of 2020). BEVs represent 4.7% of the European production, all engines combined (336,481 units; + 153%), PHEVs 5.2% (373,264 units; + 174%) and HEVs nearly 2% (140,821 units; + 90%).

Over this period, Germany remains the country that produces the highest numbers of BEVs (92,411 units) and PHEVs (149,725 units) while France produces the most HEVs (66,696 units), due to the Toyota Yaris.

The carmaker having produced the highest number of BEVs over this same period is the Volkswagen group (123,818 units; + 251%) followed by the Stellantis groups (70,873 units; + 211%) and Renault-Nissan (61,960 units; + 28%).

The carmaker having produced the highest number of PHEVs over this same period is also the Volkswagen group (99,226 units; + 239%) followed by the BMW groups (71,027 units; + 97%), Geely (55,785 units; + 91%) and Stellantis (50,408 units; + 192%).

The carmaker having produced the highest number of HEVs over the same period is the Toyota group (120,923 units; + 68%).
