Inovev forecasts 50,000 units per year of the new Toyota BZ4X
Toyota confirms the launch of its first mass-produced battery electric vehicle, the BZ4X, which is in a way a redesigned RAV4 with electric drive. This model will be marketed from December 2021.

The Japanese carmaker, pioneer in the hybrid technology (gasoline + electric motorisations), has being late to enter the battery electric vehicle (BEVs) market, by today its BZ (for “Beyond Zero” product line, dedicated to BEVs models, is expected to strongly develop in the next four years.

Toyota has in fact planned to launch 7 battery electric models by 2025, for which the commercial names have already been communicated: BZ1, BZ2, BZ3, BZ4, BZ5 as well as BZ2X and BZ4X which may be equipped with all-wheel drive (developed with Subaru).

All these models will be based on the battery electric e-TNGA platform. They will be produced in both China and Japan from where they will be exported to Europe and the United States in particular.

The front-wheel drive Toyota BZ4X has a 204 hp electric motor, while the four-wheel drive version has a 217 hp electric motor. The battery offers a capacity of 71.5 kWh allowing a range of between 460 km (four-wheel drive version) and 500 km (traction version).

Sales targets are unknown, but Inovev forecasts 25,000 sales per year at the start of their career and then 50,000 sales per year in the middle of their career.
