The Russian market fell by 5.3% in 2021 compared to 2019
The Russian light vehicle market (PC+LCV) increased by 4.3% in 2021 compared to 2020 and fell by 5.3% compared to 2019. Russia registered 1,666,780 light vehicles in 2021, compared to 1,598,825 units in 2020 and 1,760,000 in 2019. The level established in 2021 remains however very low compared to the years 2007-2008 and 2011-2012-2013-2014 which had marked a peak in registrations in Russia (more than 2.5 million units per year). The 2021 level remains in line with the trend of the years 2015 to 2020 (around 1.5 million units per year), the lowest level on the Russian market. These years 2015 to 2020 correspond to the period of the economic sanctions which were imposed on Russia in relation to the Crimea problem in 2014. The Russian automobile market nevertheless remains the fourth in Europe in terms of volume, behind Germany, France and Great Britain, but ahead of Italy.

The Renault-Nissan group remains largely the leader of the Russian market in 2021 (34% market share), mainly thanks to the Lada brand (21% market share) which remains the leading brand in this market. The Hyundai-Kia (23%), Volkswagen (12%), Toyota (7%), BMW (3%) and Daimler (3%) groups follow. The other manufacturers have very modest market shares. Chinese manufacturers represent 7% of the Russian market, up sharply compared to 2020.

The best-selling models in Russia in 2021 are the Lada Vesta (113,698 units), Lada Granta (111,430 units), Kia Rio (82,941 units), Hyundai Creta (68,081 units) and Hyundai Solaris (61,061 units).
