The Turkish market increased by 53.9% in 2021 compared to 2019
The Turkish vehicle market (PC+UV) fell by 4.6% in 2021 compared to 2020 and increased by 53.9% compared to 2019 which had seen registrations collapse. Turkey registered 737,350 vehicles in 2021, compared to 772,788 in 2020 and 479,000 in 2019. The level of 2021 is an average level compared to the last twenty years, being between the peak of 2015-2016 (1 million registrations per year) and the trough of 2018-2019 (500,000 registrations per year).

Victim of repeated economic and political crises, Turkey presents an unstable and uneven evolution of the automobile market, which accentuates the difficulty of predicting the future evolution of this market. The forecasts of a Turkish market of 900,000 units announced last year by Inovev could not be achieved, since this market did not even reach 750,000 registrations in 2021.

By manufacturer, the Renault-Nissan group was overtaken last year by the Stellantis group created in 2021 by the merger of FCA (Fiat-Chrysler) and PSA. Fiat has always been a very important player in Turkey since the 1960s. The combined sales of Fiat and PSA have therefore made it possible to create the new leader of the Turkish market from 2021, with 27% of total registrations, thus ahead of Renault-Nissan. (21%) and Volkswagen (19%).

The best-selling models in Turkey in 2021 were the Fiat Tipo (71,741 units), Toyota Corolla (41,721 units), Renault Clio (36,444 units) and Renault Mégane (29,832 units). The Fiat Tipo is called Egea in Turkey.
