The top 25 best-selling models in Europe in 2021
The European market reached 11,762,568 passenger cars in 2021, compared to 11,951,813 in 2020, which corresponds to a decrease of 1.6% year-on-year. Compared to 2019, the drop reached 25.5%.

The ranking of the top 25 sales changed substantially last year. Admittedly, the Volkswagen Golf remains the European market leader, but is closely followed by the Peugeot 208. The Golf lost 32% of its sales compared to 2020 while the Peugeot 208 kept practically the same sales volume (-0.3%) while supplanting its main competitor the Renault Clio. The Peugeot 2008, which is progressing strongly (+25.5%), goes from 13th to 3rd place. In particular, it is ahead of its main competitor, the Renault Captur, which is in 10th position. This is down 10.3% compared to 2020, which prompted the manufacturer to offer a non-rechargeable hybrid engine, as on the Clio. The Renault Clio (-19.2%) fell from second to fourth place, now closely followed by the Dacia Sandero which increased by 19.9%, from 12th to 5th place. The Volkswagen T-Roc (+16.7%) rose from 14th to 6th place, driven by strong sales growth at the expense of the Volkswagen Golf. This is followed by the Opel Corsa (-8.9%), the Toyota Yaris (+6.2%) and the Fiat 500 (+54.6%) which is growing strongly thanks to its 100% electric version which represents almost a sale on three. These ten best-selling cars in Europe represent 15% of the global market.

SUVs accounted for 47% of passenger car sales in Europe in 2021, and the top 25 has 10. Sedans accounted for 49% of passenger car sales in Europe in 2021, and the top 25 has 15.
