The 25 best-selling models in Europe in 2024
In a European market (30 countries = EU + United Kingdom + Switzerland + Norway) of passenger cars (PC) which increased by 1% in 2024 compared to 2023, the Dacia Sandero became the best-selling car (258,745 units against 233,072 in 2023), ahead of the Volkswagen Golf (213,193 units against 179,871 in 2023) and Renault Clio (212,378 units against 198,950 in 2023) and taking the leading position from the Tesla Model Y which fell from first to fourth place (207,629 units against 249,020 in 2023).

The Dacia Sandero probably meets a demand for affordable cars from European customers, even though this model has very few rivals in its category and car prices have increased significantly in recent years.

The Volkswagen Golf (leader in Europe from 2007 to 2021 and second in the ranking in 2024) managed to revive in 2024, with an increase of 18.5% compared to 2023, which seems to indicate that part of the Volkswagen ID3 customer base switched to the combustion engine Golf last year.

Volkswagen places four models in the Top 25 (Golf, T-Roc, Tiguan, Polo) in 2024, as does Toyota (Yaris Cross, Yaris, Corolla, CHR). These two brands dominate the European market in 2024, with a market share of 10.6% and 7.2% respectively. Renault (5.4%) and Peugeot (5%) each place two models in the Top 25 (Clio, Captur and 208, 2008). These four brands therefore only have a total of 28.2% of the market. Fiat only places one model in 2024 (Panda) because the 500 has disappeared from the Top 25. The B and C segments have consolidated their presence in Europe in 2024 (73% of the market compared to 71% in 2023). SUVs have consolidated their presence in Europe in 2024 (53% of the market compared to 52% in 2023).
