Inovev forecasts 70,000 VW Touareg/year from 2019 to 2021
Volkswagen did not present the new generation of the Touareg at the Geneva Motor Show (despite the fact that the model was ready), reserving it for the Beijing Motor Show at the end of April 2018. The Touareg , an E segment SUV, competes with the BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes GLE, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Velar, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota Land Cruiser, Lexus RX, and Infiniti QX70. Premium brands are predominant in this market, hence Volkswagen’s difficulty to compete.

This third-generation Touareg is based on the MLB platform shared by the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Bentley Bentayga. The new Touareg is 8cm longer than the old one, 4cm wider, but 100kg lighter thanks to the use of aluminum and high performance steels.

The engines selected for this model are : a 3.0 turbodiesel developing 228 hp, a 3.0 turbogasoline developing 336 hp and a 4.0 turbodiesel developing 417 hp. A plug-in hybrid version is planned for 2019.

The new Volkswagen Touareg will be manufactured as previously on the Slovak site of Bratislava, alongside the Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Up, Skoda Citigo, Seat Mii. The production of the previous generation had fallen a lot, from 80,000 units in 2011 to 40,000 in 2017. Inovev forecasts 70,000 units produced annually from 2019 to 2021; from 2022 to 2025 production is expected to decline.
