Inovev forecasts production of 950,000 Toyota RAV4 per year
- The RAV4 is the most produced SUV in the world (840,000 units in 2017), ahead of VW Tiguan (745,000), Honda CRV (695,000), Nissan Rogue (490,000) and Nissan Qashqai (475,000). It is currently manufactured in four different countries: Japan (430,000 units in 2017), Canada (250,000), China (130,000) and Russia (30,000). It is the most produced model in Japan and Asia in 2017, but also the fourth most produced in the world, behind the Ford F Series F, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Golf. The evolution of its production volume is spectacular, since this volume increased from 250,000 in 2005 to 450,000 in 2010, 600,000 in 2013 and 840,000 in 2017.
- This is why its replacement is special, as it is crucial for Toyota. Toyota unveiled the fifth generation of the RAV4 at the 2018 New York Motor Show, which replaces the previous generation launched in 2013. The design of the new RAV4 is totally different and more similar to their luxury subsidiary Lexus’ SUV.
- The new RAV4 is built on the modular TNGA platform that lowers its center of gravity. Longer by 3cm (4.60m), the RAV4 will no longer be available in diesel version (like the Honda CRV) but only in gasoline version 2.0 or hybrid version 2.5.
- The success of the model is expected to continue with this new generation, and Inovev expects a production increase to between 900,000 and 950,000 units per year for the next four years.
