Rivian seeks to compete with Tesla and Byton
- Rivian is a new American company whose objective is to become a major manufacturer of 100% electric cars, just like Tesla or Byton. Rivian is headquartered in Michigan (USA) in the city of Plymouth (which once gave its name to a Chrysler Group brand). The company was founded in 2009 and in 2017 acquired the Normal, Illinois plant, which belonged to Japan's Mitsubishi Motors when it worked closely with the Chrysler Group. Rivian has R&D centers in California and England.
- In 2018, Rivian presented two 100% electric concept cars, the R1T pickup truck and the R1S SUV. The manufacturer has announced that these models will be launched in 2020, first in North America and then in 2021 on other continents, including Europe. Each model has three different powers (408 hp, 710 hp, 764 hp), allowing a maximum range of 400km, 500km or 600km depending on the power (cycle not specified)....
- Rivian is one of those new companies that are involved in the design, manufacture and marketing of electric cars, being particularly active in China. Rivian models will only be marketed via the Internet. The company is particularly targeting Tesla, which produced and sold 250,000 electric cars in 2018.
- The company has set a target of 200,000 units per year worldwide by 2025.
