- VW-SAIC (Shanghai) introduces the new generation of Santana in China.

- This legendary model was the first model to be produced in large numbers in China, starting as soon as in 1990. It was derived from the VW Santana European of this time (notchback version of the Passat).

- The model quickly reached the 200,000 unitsssold perhyear, but with the expansion of the VW China range (Jetta, Bora, Lavida, Magotan, Sagitar, Passat), the Santana market shrunk down to a very small amount
In 2012, it does not belong any more to the top chart of the 30 most sold Chinese vehicles.

- The current model is derived from recent Rapid Skoda and Seat Toledo manufactured in Europe. She abandons at last the platform and styling of a twenty years model.
