SAIC-GM-Wuling will build a third plant in Chongqing
SAIC-GM-Wuling announced it would build a third plant in Chongqing, in order to meet the growing demand for its vehicles, which are increasingly popular in China.
The joint venture between SAIC and Wuling GM plans to start construction of this new plant at the beginning of 2013. The first phase of this project, representing an investment of 6.6 billion yuan (815 million euros), should be operational in 2015.

The plant will have a production capacity of 400,000 vehicles per year. SAIC-GM-Wuling currently has plants in Liuzhou and Qingdao.

The new plant in Chongqing will enable the joint venture to achieve its production target of 2 million vehicles per year by 2016 (against 1.3 million in 2012).
