Toyota in pole position to take again the worldwide number 1 position

Toyota seems well placed to become the world leader in terms of sales in 2012, despite the drop in sales in China resulting from the diplomatic dispute between Tokyo and Beijing.

Toyota global sales are forecasted to reach 9.7 million units in 2012, against 9.1 to 9.2 million units for its competitors General Motors and Volkswagen.

Toyota became the first manufacturer worldwide in 2008 ahead of General Motors who had remained leader for several decades.

The devastating tsunami in March 2011 unfortunately had pushed back Toyota from the first to the fourth place in 2011.

It is to be noted that that the sales volumes calculation include vehicles produced by the JVs with Chinese manufacturers. Other ways of integrating Chinese vehicles may change the relative positions.
