Audi Doubles the capacity of its Györ plant in Hungary

Audi has unveiled the new production line at its plant in Györ (Hungary), designed to accommodate the production of the A3 sedan (trunk version). With this new assembly line, the plant will now have a production capacity of 120,000 vehicles per year against 60,000 units previously.

So far, Audi assembled at Györ both the coupe and TT Roadster and the A3 Cabriolet. In 2012, the Bavarian manufacturer produced 34,782 vehicles in Györ (against 41,268 in 2011 and 38,744 in 2010).

From 2014, the plant is expected to produce between 80,000 and 90,000 A3 sedans, in addition to the TT and A3 cabriolet, which should represent a total volume of 110 000 to 120 000 vehicles, close to the maximum volume capacity plant.

Audi has confirmed that the model will be manufactured in Györ for global markets except China, where it will soon be made (at FAW).

The A3 sedan will compete directly with the Mercedes CLA the trunk version of the Mercedes A-Class. It is not yet known whether, like the Mercedes CLA the Audi A3 Sedan will be entitled to a an estate version. The manufacturer may propose such an alternative provided that it can clearly differentiate it from the A3 Sportback.
