Nissan is going to assemble vehicles in Nigeria
- Nissan and the African Stallion company signed a cooperation agreement for the assembly of vehicles in a plant near Lagos.
- The agreement, which must be endorsed by the Nigerian authorities will make Nissan the first major international foreign manufacturer to settle in the country after the departure of Peugeot in the 2000s.
- The existing Stallion plant that previously produced commercial vehicles (trucks, buses, pickups, vans) in small quantities for the local market, will also manufacture passenger cars.
- Its capacity will be further increased from 25 000 to 45 000 units per year. The first Nissan vehicle will be released in spring 2014 , it should be the offroad Patrol. In the long run the plant could also produce Renault cars .
- In an African market that has been stable for several years, Nissan expects to double its sales in Africa by 2016, from 110 000 to 220 000 units per year. The Japanese automaker has announced the start of production in South Africa of a new pick-up on the site of Rosslyn in Pretoria as well as the launch of the Datsun brand in this country before the end of 2014.
- Renault, meanwhile, sold 300 000 vehicles per year in Africa a total of 1.5 million across all brands.
