Compared evolution of carmakers’ production inside and outside Europe
- The share of production inside-Europe/outside-Europe (Europe: 27 countries + Russia) of the eight largest manufacturers in Europe has been declining since 2008. This decrease is due to:
a) the decline in automobile production in Europe, in general as a result of lower sales in the European market;
b) the launch of production sites in rising markets countries outside Europe (especially in emerging countries such as China , Brazil and India).
- This share of production inside-Europe/outside-Europe of the eight largest manufacturers in Europe decreased from 45 % in 2008 to 32% in 2013. It was 42 % in 2005.
- As for carmakers, two groups - Volkswagen and Renault -Nissan (including AvtoVAZ in the present analysis) have seen their production outside Europe overpass European production, respectively in 2013 and 2008.
- GM , Ford and Fiat -Chrysler have naturally a very small share of production inside-Europe/outside-Europe. This share is steadily declining since 2008 , partly because of their strong presence in North America
- PSA , BMW and Daimler keep a strong predominance of their production located in Europe. This share is however steadily decreasing. Hyundai- Kia is the only manufacturer to have increased its share of production inside-Europe/outside-Europe since 2005, the main reason being its location of a production in Europe in 2005.
