- The Fiat-Chrysler Group unveiled the new Fiat 500X. This model is based on the platform of the Fiat 500, 500L, 500L Living and Jeep Renegade manufactured with an unconventional body type with four-doors and measuring 4.25 m long.
- This new model, that falls within the category of B-segment SUVs will compete with the Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008, Nissan Juke and Opel Mokka which are very popular in the European market.
- In the first 8 months of 2014, the Captur has thus sold at 103 197 units, the Peugeot 2008 at 88 051 units, the Nissan Juke at 58 052 units and the Opel Mokka at 73 547 units. Ford has just started marketing the Ecosport (5 000 units) and Fiat will begin that of the 500X early next year.
- The carmaker expects to reach a production volume of 130 000 units produced in the Italian plant of Melfi (with 80 000 annual sales in Europe and 50 000 annual sales in North America). Inovev forecasts a production of 100 000 units in a full year.
- This plant also produces the Jeep version of the Fiat 500X, called the Renegade, which the manufacturer intends to sell at 150 000 units annually (50 000 sales in Europe and 100 000 in North America). Inovev forecasts 100 000 units produced for this model.
- The new Fiat 500X is equipped with the same engines as the Jeep Renegade, namely the 1400 and 1600 MultiAir petrol and the 1600 and 2000 diesel MultiJet Fiat engines. The powers range from 110 hp to 170 hp.
