The VW Golf is the best-selling C segment in Europe in 2014

The Volkswagen Golf is the best selling car in Europe in 2014 and therefore the best selling C-segment vehicle. C segment is the most represented on the continent in terms of sales, since, with 38% of the European market in 2014 (against 39% in 2013), it still leads all other segments.

The Volkswagen Golf is and has been the leader of the European market for many years. Since 1995, for example, it has been replaced three times: in 1997 (the Fiat Punto was then the market leader) in 2002 and 2003 (the Peugeot 206 was then the market leader).

The seventh generation Golf was released in late 2012 and the Golf Sportsvan (sales and production numbers of this vehicle are integrated to the figures of the Golf by Inovev) launched a year later to replace the Golf Plus, besides the rare estate and convertible, this allowed the flagship model of the Wolfsburg firm to consolidate its leading position in Europe.

Indeed, in 2014 the Volkswagen Golf holds a market share of 4.6% in Europe (against 4.4% in 2013). It represents 12% of European sales in its own segment. Its main competitors are the Ford Focus (4.4% of segment C), the Audi A3 (4.2% of segment C), the Nissan Qashqai (4.1% of segment C), the Opel Astra (3 5% of segment C), the 308 (3.4% of segment C) and the Volkswagen Tiguan (3.1% of segment C).
