Italian production stabilized in 2014
- Italy produced 581 633 vehicles last year (PC + LUV) in total (of which 11 000 were Jeep Renegade), against 588 416 in 2013 (-1%) but nearly 1.2 million in 2007.
- In 2014 Italian car production ended six years of sharp decline slightly rectifying the slowdown thanks to the start of the first Jeep produced in the country, the Renegade. The fall of Italian production between 2007 and 2013 (-50%) is mainly due to the fall of the Italian market (-47%) of which it remains heavily dependent on, but also the near withdrawal of the FCA Group from segment B with the non-replacement of the Fiat Punto (formerly European market leader).
- The decision to manufacture different versions of the 500L in Serbia (this model is manufactured at 100 000 units per year) also stopped an full revival of the automotive industry in Italy. Also, the transfer of the Lancia Ypsilon to Poland didn't helped this recovery. Poland (+ 10%) and especially Serbia (+ 30%) experienced an increase in their production levels that was higher than that of Italy.
- But a sustainable recovery of Italian production is not assured. Indeed, despite the production of the new 500X and Jeep Renegade (SUV from segment B, a category with strong growth in Europe) and despite a restart of the Italian market, these two positive impacts will struggle to compensate for the announced transfer of the Punto to Poland and the Bravo to Turkey.
