Assessment of European production (PC+UV) for the first six months of 2015
- In the first half of 2015, production (PC + UV) in Europe (29 countries + Turkey) exceeded 10 million units, an increase of 8.34% compared to the same period last year. Production of passenger cars (PC) rose by 6.55% to 8.6 million units and those of commercial vehicles (UV) grew by 20.5% to 1.4 million units.
- By country, we saw a strong growth in Spain (+ 23.8% to 1.43 million units), Turkey (+ 16.9% to 683 000 units) the Czech Republic (+15 5% to 566 000 units) and Italy (+ 30.8% to 441 000 units) while Belgium was down sharply (-21.3% to 185 000 units). Germany (+ 1%) and the UK (+ 0.9%) remain virtually unchanged and France continued its moderate growth (+ 3.5%).
- By group, VW (+ 2% to 2.5 million units) remains the leader of European production but with a lower growth than Renault-Nissan (+ 7.8% to 1.24 million units) or PSA (+ 10% to 1.15 million units). The VW Group saw its premium brand Audi decline (-3% to 647 000 units) pending renewal of the Audi A4, while the VW brand (+ 1.9% to 1.2 million units) and Skoda (+ 1.7% to 308 000 units) rose slightly. Thanks to the ramp-up of high-volume models (Peugeot 308 in particular), mainstream brands of French groups experience an attractive progression of their production: Renault (+ 9.2% to 717 000 units), Nissan (+ 7.1% to 334 000 units), Dacia (+ 3.8% to 186 000 units), Peugeot (+ 9.9% to 653 000 units) and Citroën (+ 13.3% to 452 000 units). Only the DS brand experienced a sharp decline (-16.6% to 42 000 units) due to lack of renewal of these products and the pending development of new models, including in the SUV category.
- Despite a drop in production (-5.5% to 329 000 units) the Golf remained the most produced model in Europe, ahead of the Passat which is entering its cruising speed (+ 19% to 190 000 units), while the Clio was down (-10% to 181 000 units).
