Beijing Auto Show 2016

The Beijing Motor Show 2016 was a chance for Chinese manufacturers to demonstrate their know-how and to unveil a number of new SUV models, both in conceptual and definitive form (at marketing phase). SUVs are the vehicle category which currently enjoys the fastest growing sales in China (exports are no longer a priority for Chinese manufacturers: see next article).

Inovev counted 25 SUVs among the 48 notable new vehicles at the Beijing Motor Show 2016, making up just over half of the new vehicles, but representing only 29.5% of car sales in China in 2015. Of these 25 SUVs presented in Beijing, 10 are segment C, 7 are segment D, 4 are segment B and 4 are segment E.

Inovev also counted 17 new sedans at the Beijing Motor Show, making up around a third of the new vehicles, and representing 55.5% of car sales in China in 2015. Of these 17 sedans presented in Beijing, 6 are segment E, 5 are segment C, 2 are segment D, 2 are segment B, 1 is segment A and 1 is segment F.

The remaining 6 notable vehicles belong to the categories of sports car, minivan, minibus and MPV, which altogether represented 15% of car sales in China in 2015.

Of these 48 new vehicles, around forty will go on sale between May and December 2016.
