The PSA Rennes plant will survive thanks to three new models

Built in 1960 in order to produce the Citroën Ami 6, the PSA Rennes plant became later the production site of the Citroën GS, BX, Xantia and C5. It welcomed Peugeot models from 2004, first one being the Peugeot 407. At  that time, the production capacity was 300,000 vehicles per year.

The Rennes plant suffered much in the years 2005-2015 from the sales decline of mid-range and high-range sedans, caused by the strong growth of SUV sales.

Rennes plant production capacity was then reduced by 50% from 300 000 to 150 000 vehicles per year, and some experts even predicted a 2020 closure of this factory dedicated to medium sedans and high range of the PSA group. Finally, the Rennes plant will not close.

The PSA group has decided a new product plan which loads the plant from 2016 to 2018:

§In 2017, will start the manufacture of the new 5008 (or 6008), a large SUV based on the platform EMP2.
§In 2018, will start the manufacture of the new Citroën C4 Aircross, a compact SUV based on the platform EMP2.
§In 2018, will start the manufacture of the replacement for the Peugeot 508, based on EMP2 platform.
§These three models (C5 will not be replaced) should saturate the plant capacity (150 000 units).
