The new 2016-2019 BMW product plan

 

BMW unveiled its new 2016-2019 product plan. This plan has been constructed with the objective to keep the lead of BMW  ahead of Audi and Mercedes in terms of sales. 
It includes an offer of 30 different body styles in 2020.

The new generation of the sedan and station-wagon 5 Series (segment E) should be presented in the second half of 2016.

It is expected that the Bavarian carmaker then unveils:

§In 2017: the X2 coupe SUV (C segment) based on the  X1 launched in 2015, the new Z4 cabriolet (segment C) shared with Toyota, the new generation of the 1 Series ( segment C) (Mini platform, Mini Countryman, Active Tourer and Gran Tourer) which will be front wheel driven conversely to the previous one, the new generation of the X3 SUV (segment D) and finally a long version of the X5, which should be called X7.

§In 2018: the new generation of 3 Series(segment D) in sedan and station wagon, the 6 Series (segment E), in coupe and convertible versions, and finally X4 SUV (segment D) coupe based on X3 launched a year earlier.

§In 2019: the new generation X5 SUV (segment E) of Series 2 (section C), in coupe and convertible versions, and the Series 4 (D segment), in coupe and convertible versions.

It is to be noted that:

§The future 1 - Series 1 will switch to front wheel drive technology but the 2 Series  will remain rear wheel drive (propulsion).

§The 7 Series has been renewed in 2015 and  will not be replaced before 2022.

§The marketing plan of new Series 8 models has not yet been decided.
