Geely plans to build 50,000 new Polestar 2 per year
- Polestar is a brand of the Geely group, created in 2015, and dedicated to Volvo based, 100% electric, premium cars . While the Polestar 1 is a 100% electric coupé, the Polestar 2, presented in Geneva, is a 100% electric 4-door sedan that develops a power output of around 400 hp and boasts a range of 500 kilometers. Its CMA platform is the base for the Volvo XC40 and Lynk&Co 01, 02, 03.
- The Polestar 2 is a direct rival of the Tesla Model 3 which has just arrived on the European market.
- The Polestar 2 will arrive on the European market from the first quarter of 2020, just a few months after its launch in China. It will be produced in Volvo's Chinese factory in Daqing, , which already produces the Polestar 1 coupé and will produce the Polestar 3, which will be a compact SUV, next year.
- Geely aims for an annual production of 50,000 Polestar 2 out of a total of 100,000 units for all Polestar models, including the Polestar 1 coupe, Polestar 2 sedan ,and Polestar 3 SUV.
- Of this total, the manufacturer hopes to sell some tens of thousands of these three models on the European continent. Tesla sold 30,000 electric cars in 2018 in Europe, without the Model 3 which started selling in Europe in February 2019. Geely's objective for Polestar therefore seems quite ambitious.
