It is also equipped with a plug-in hybrid engine (PHEV) which was already available on the previous Audi A3 and which is available on the new Volkswagen Golf.

The new Audi A3 will still be produced at the Ingolstadt (Germany) plant, but as for the Golf, it will no longer be available in a 3-door version.

It was however in a 3-door version that the first Audi A3 was launched in 1996.
