The Hyundai-Kia group gets 9% of the European market for electrified vehicles
- The Hyundai-Kia group registered 841,520 vehicles, all engines combined, in Europe in 2020, representing 6% of the European passenger car and light utility vehicle market. This total breaks down into 424,805 Hyundai and 416,715 Kia, as the Genesis brand is not yet released in Europe in 2020.
- Among this total, sales of xEVs (hybrid-HEV, plug-in hybrid-PHEV and 100% electric-BEV) reached 168,674 units, including 80,348 BEVs + 27,132 PHEVs + 35,055 HEVs. Are remaining 26,139 other hybrid vehicles that have not been defined (HEV or PHEV). xEVs represent indeed 20% of the total group sales in 2020.
- This volume places the Korean group in third place in the European market for electrified vehicles, behind Toyota (385,050 units) and Volkswagen (268,265 units), but ahead of the Renault-Nissan groups (151,041 units), Daimler (146,667 units), BMW (131,776 units), PSA (104,245 units), Tesla (98,103 units), Geely (86,720 units) and Tata (20,634 units). The Hyundai-Kia group gets 9% of the European market for xEVs.
- In the BEVs category, Hyundai-Kia is however in fourth position, behind Volkswagen (154,112 units), Renault-Nissan (132,356 units) and Tesla (98,103 units). Among the electrified models, the best-selling models on the European market in 2020 by the Korean group were the 100% electric Hyundai Kona (39,367 units), the 100% electric Kia Niro (26,849 units), the Kia Niro hybrid (16,394 units) and the Kia Niro plug-in hybrid (12,902 units).
