The new Volkswagen T7 Multivan replaces T6 Caravelle, Sharan and Touran
Volkswagen has just renewed its offer in the MPV category. The new T7 Multivan is an evolution of the T6 Caravelle which will replace both the T6 in passenger car version (transport of passenger), the Sharan (D-segment minivan) and the Touran (C-segment minivan). The T7 Multivan remains based on the T6 Caravelle, meaning remains based on the Transporter van.

The Volkswagen T7 will be only available in its passenger transport version (7 seats) as the T6 continues its career in the category of light utility vehicles, in the N1-2 segment. These vehicles are represented in Europe by the Renault Trafic, Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy, Opel Vivaro, Fiat Talento, Toyota ProAce, Nissan NV300 and Ford Transit.

The Volkswagen T7 Multivan will be available in a 1.4 TSI plug-in hybrid petrol version, using the same engine as for the Golf and Passat PHEVs. It will also be equipped with the 1.5 TSI (134 hp) and 2.0 TSI (201 hp) but not the 2.0 TDI diesel engine (148 hp) reserved for the T6.

This category of light utility vehicles reached a volume of 215,000 vehicles in Europe in 2020 but the market is rather around 275,000 units in a normal year, while the passenger transport versions of these models represent 105,000 vehicles in 2020 (half LUV volume) but rather 135,000 units in a normal year.

The Volkswagen T6 represented 85,000 units in 2020 (including 45,000 passenger cars and 40,000 LUVs), against 110,000 in 2019 (including 60,000 passenger cars and 50,000 LUVs). As the Sharan was sold at 11,000 units in 2020 and the Touran 45,000 units, and the Electric Kombi is scheduled for 2022, Inovev forecasts around 100,000 sales per year of the new T7 Multivan. This model is still manufactured in Hanover, Germany.
