Inovev forecasts 50,000 units per year worldwide of the new Lancia Ypsilon
The former president of the Fiat-Chrysler group (FCA), Sergio Marchionne, had planned to end the Lancia brand due to low sales worldwide. The merger of FCA with PSA in 2021 changed the situation and the president of the new Stellantis group created during this merger, Carlos Tavares, announced that Lancia not only will not be condemned but that the brand will be developed in several markets with three new models planned between 2024 and 2028 (i.e. one model every two years).

The first new model of the new Lancia era is the Ypsilon, which replaces a model dating from 2011 and which has therefore largely exceeded its usual life cycle but which remains the third best-selling car in Italy.

The new Ypsilon, which is sharing parts with the Peugeot 208 & Opel Corsa, will initially be battery electric model and produced at the Spanish site in Zaragoza, alongside the Peugeot e-208 and Opel e-Corsa. Its 156 hp (115 kW) electric motor is powered by a 54 kWh battery allowing a range of 400 km. A more powerful and sportier HF version will be launched in 2025. The new Lancia Ypsilon will also be marketed in a 48V micro-hybrid thermal version (MHEV) of 100 hp (75 kW) based on the 1.2 gasoline which is already used on other models of the Stellantis group. This version will represent the entry level of the Ypsilon.

The dimensions of the Ypsilon are very close to those of the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa (length: 4.08 m, width: 1.76 m, height: 1.44 m). The Ypsilon will be one of the rare Premium B-segment models available on the European market (with the Lexus LBX which is also available on other markets), the price of which should be close to 43,000 euros for the electric version, or the price of a basic Tesla Model 3. As a result of this high price, Inovev only expects 50,000 sales per year of the new Lancia Ypsilon, all versions combined.
