Germany produced 35% of the xEVs made in Europe in 2023
European countries (EU + UK + EFTA) produced 3,455,337 xEVs (BEV + PHEV + HEV) in 2023, compared to 2,418,313 in 2022, representing an increase of 43% in one year, a growth that accelerates because the increase observed in 2022 compared to 2021 did not exceed 20%.

Among these xEVs produced in Europe in 2023, there were 1,718,674 BEVs (+53% compared to 2022), 1,028,363 PHEVs (+39%) and 708,300 HEVs (+28%). In this category, Germany produces 35% of xEVs produced in Europe in 2023.

In the BEV category, Germany takes a considerable lead over other countries, with nearly 900,000 vehicles produced with three very involved carmakers (Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes) which concentrate the majority of their BEV production there and Tesla, which produced nearly 200,000 Model Ys there last year. Far behind Germany, France (165,000 units) and Spain (155,000 units) are neck and neck.

In the PHEV category, Germany is well ahead of other countries, with 333,000 vehicles produced, while Spain not exceeding 125,000 vehicles produced.

In the HEV category, France remains the leading producing country thanks to Toyota which accounts for the majority of the 255,000 vehicles produced in the country, ahead of the United Kingdom (180,000 units) mainly represented by Toyota.
