The World's Top 15 Electric Cars (BEV + PHEV) in Q1 2018
Of the 305,000 electric cars (BEV) and plug-in hybrids (PHEV) sold worldwide in the first quarter of 2018, China has bought 123,000 units, Europe 87,000 units, the United States 55,000 units and Japan 20 000 units.

Renault-Nissan group consolidates its first place as electric car manufacturer, in front of the Tesla, BYD, BMW and Volkswagen groups. Renault-Nissan is benefiting from the ramp up of the new Nissan Leaf, which became the world's best-selling electric car in the first quarter of 2018. At the same time, Tesla is having some difficulties in the manufacturing process of the new Model 3, which is only the 11th largest selling model in the world, whereas it should be in the Top 3.

By brand, Tesla remains leader in front of BYD that it precedes by only 750 units . BMW is in third place, thanks to the i3 but also to its wide range of rechargeable hybrid models (Series 2, Series 3, Series 5, Series 7, X5). Nissan is fourth thanks to the Leaf. Then  follows BAIC (which benefits from the success of the E-Series model, the world's second best-selling electric model) and Volkswagen (which has a wide range of plug-in hybrid models).

By model, the Nissan Leaf takes the lead in electric car sales, thanks to the new generation introduced last year. Then follow the BAIC E-Series (sold exclusively in China), the Toyota Prius PHEV,  the BYD Song (sold exclusively in China),  the Tesla Model S,  the JAC EV (sold exclusively in China) and  the Tesla Model X.
