Inovev forecasts 100,000 new VW US Passats per year

At the 2019 Detroit Motor Show, Volkswagen presented the new generation of its Passat sedan reserved exclusively for the US market. This model, which replaces the generation launched in 2011, accentuates its difference with the European Passat and even the Chinese Passat. Indeed, the new model boasts an imposing, almost hatchback style, like its main competitors Chevrolet Malibu, Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Nissan Altima.

The new VW Passat for the US market will still be built in the manufacturer's US plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It will try to make people forget the end of the old generation's career, which had fallen to 70,000 units in 2018 after reaching a volume of nearly 180,000 units in 2012.

No doubt the Dieselgate played against the American Passat, but also the increasing decline in the influence of sedans on the American market in favour of SUVs. For example, the VW Atlas launched in 2017 is already selling as well as the Passat sedan on the American market, and the VW Tiguan is selling twice as well.

Unlike the European Passat, which is built upon the MQB platform, the American Passat retains the old PQ46 platform and the old 174 hp 2.0 petrol engine. Inovev expects sales volume of 100,000 units per year of the new American Passat, taking into account current developments in the American market.
