Inovev expects 75,000 units per year from the new Ford Mustang
The seventh generation Ford Mustang (coupe and convertible) has just been unveiled. It looks confusingly similar to the previous generation and has the same internal combustion engines. The manufacturer has announced that this will be the last version of the model with an internal combustion engine, which will be replaced by a 100% electric model by 2030 at the latest, like the Mustang Mach-E SUV launched in 2020, which is a Mustang in name only.

However, the Mustang Mach-E sold better than the 2022 Mustang, as 54,000 units were sold worldwide in the first nine months of 2022, compared to 47,000 internal combustion engine Mustangs.

The Ford Mustang (whose first generation dates back to 1964) remains, despite everything, -first: the only passenger car in the U.S. of the Ford Group, since all Ford and Lincoln sedans have disappeared there. -second: the best-selling car in the "Pony Cars" category, ahead of the Dodge Challenger and the Chevrolet Camaro, both of which, by the way, are scheduled to be discontinued by the end of the year.

So in 2023, the Ford Mustang will be the only pony car still in production, which Inovev says will allow it to improve its sales numbers, which were very low in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Inovev expects sales of 75,000 vehicles per year by 2030, but it is true that Pony Cars now represent a very small part of the U.S. market. Their sales have declined from 320,000 units in 2015 to 120,000 units in 2022. At a time when SUVs are ubiquitous and electric vehicles are growing steadily, pony cars are seeing their influence wane.
