Sales evolution of ICE vehicles in Europe, China and the USA
The internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle market fell sharply in Europe and China, while the decline was more limited in the United States.
 
In Europe, the average market share which was 96.1% of total passenger car registrations in 2017 decreased to 94.9% in 2018 then 93.2% in 2019, 84.5% in 2020, 75.4 % in 2021 and 69.7% in 2022. Volumes decreased from 14,977,558 units in 2017 to 13,550,275 in 2018, 14,716,672 in 2019, 10,094,389 in 2020, 8,876,993 in 2021 and 7,853,674 in 2022.
 
In China, the average market share which was 97.2% of total passenger car registrations in 2017 declined to 94.5% in 2018 then 94.1% in 2019, 92.9% in 2020, 82.0 % in 2021 and 64.6% in 2022. Volumes decreasedfrom 24,025,544 units in 2017 to 20,080,193 in 2018, 20,203,346 in 2019, 18,739,414 in 2020, 17,655,938 in 2021 and 16,255 399 in 2022.
 
In the United States, the average market share, which was 96.8% of total passenger car registrations in 2017, slightly declined to 95.7% in 2018 then 95.5% in 2019, 94.6% in 2020, 90 .4% in 2021 and 87.4% in 2022. Volumes decreased from 16,687,248 units in 2017 to 15,519,142 in 2018, 16,122,133 in 2019, 13,751,102 in 2020, 13,651,446 in 2021 and 12 237,271 in 2022.
 
Among these three regions, it is the United States which remains the most faithful to the internal combustion engine, with a share of 87.4% in 2022, compared to 69.7% in Europe and 64.6% in China.
