IAA Mobility Munich 2025: Mercedes: a successor to the battery electric EQC SUV
The future battery electric Mercedes GLC (D segment) expected for spring 2026, will be neither a simple clone of the current thermal GLC nor a reissue of the old EQC discontinued in 2023. It will be a completely redesigned model, even if the general design will remain close to the thermal GLC (length of 4.80 m), but with more fluid lines and better aerodynamics (Cx of 0.24 against 0.29). It will retain generous habitability, thanks to a wheelbase extended by 10 cm and a similar rear trunk. The interior could be inspired by the thermal GLC or the new CLA.

Unlike the EQC, which relied on a specific thermal base, the new electric GLC will be designed from the ground up for electric power, on the dedicated MB.EA platform. It will incorporate an 800V architecture, allowing for ultra-fast charging. The announced range reaches 650 km, much higher than that of the EQC (less than 400 km). It will offer advanced technologies such as a two-speed gearbox and rear-wheel steering.

In short, the future electric GLC will replace the EQC in the Mercedes range, but it won't be a simple successor. It will present itself as an entirely new model, combining the style and comfort of the thermal GLC with electric technology that will correct the negative points of the old EQC and compete with the best electric SUVs on the market.

The future electric GLC is expected to be produced at the Bremen site in Germany.
