The Volvo XC90 will be transferred to the US in 2021
Sweden's Gothenburg plant will lose the production of the Volvo XC90 SUV in 2021 as the manufacturer has announced that the next generation of this model, which will be launched at the end of that year, will be produced at the US factory in Ridgeville, SC. , alongside the Volvo S60 sedan that is being  manufactured there since the beginning of summer 2018.

Sales of the XC90 in North America generally exceed 30,000 units per year, but with exports to Europe (over 30,000 sales per year), Japan, Korea and the Middle East, this model’s production on the Ridgeville site could easily exceed 70,000 annual units.

The model will also be manufactured in China for local and Southeast Asia. demand .

With the S60 sedan and the XC90 SUV, the Ridgeville Volvo plant will produce 150,000 vehicles per year, which is its maximum production capacity. It is possible that this capacity will be doubled in the medium term. Other Volvo models could then be manufactured in this factory.

This transfer of production of Volvo S60 and XC90 from Europe to the United States, although not directly related to the US government's desire to limit imports to the benefit of local production (the project dates from over 10 years ago), nonetheless perfectly matches the objectives of the Trump administration.
