Inovev forecasts 20,000 units a year for the new Audi E-Tron Sportback
- It was recently reported in one of our Auto-Analyzes that the Audi E-Tron produced in Belgium in the plant of Forest (Brussels) started at a low production rate, as its sales will not exceed 20,000 units in 2019 while the carmaker’s target was set at 45,000 units per year.
- The launch of this first Audi BEV cannot predict the success of future VW group's BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles). Indeed, the Audi E-Tron is a D segment SUV of a premium brand sold at a starting price of 85,000 euros, while the VW ID 3, which will be launched in 2020, is a C segment sedan from a mainstream brand, the first in Europe, with a price which will not exceed 40,000 euros. This model will therefore target at a wider market.
- Regarding the Audi E-Tron, the carmaker has announced a new coupe version (named Sportback) that will be added to the current E-Tron. Audi hopes to double the sales volume of E-Tron with two different bodies.
- The new E-Tron Sportback has the same technical characteristics as the standard E-Tron and will be produced in the same Belgian plant in Forest, at a rate of 20,000 to 25,000 units per year according to Inovev.
- Inovev believes that the E-Tron models will be able to get Audi closer to its initial goal of 45,000 units per year, as the two models are not targeted exactly the same customer base.
- As a reminder, the Audi E-Tron use the MLB platform and not yet the SEM platforms used on the Volkswagen ID.
