Inovev forecasts 40,000 units per year of the Citroën C5 X
- The Citroën brand (one of the many brands of the new Stellantis group) has unveiled its new D-segment model replacing the old C5 (2007-2017), which disappeared from French assembly lines four years ago. To replace the C5 sedans and station wagons, the brand preferred not to compete the Peugeot 508 frontally, and show its difference with a car with a cross over line, a bit like the recent C4. The new C5 is therefore called C5 X to clearly assert its character inspired from the SUV style, even if the C5 Aircross which remains in the Citroën range, is the truth SUV of the brand.
- Another specificity, the Stellantis group has considered a better option to produce the C5 X in China (in Chengdu, at Dongfeng) rather than in France, indicating that the market for this category of vehicles is seven times larger in China than in France. It is true, but the Citroën brand only represents 0.1% of the Chinese market today, and it will be very difficult to impose this type of model on this market. Inovev estimates the sales of this model to be 5,000 to 10,000 units per year in China and 25,000 to 30,000 per year in Europe. The C5 X will therefore be imported from China for the European market, like the Dacia Spring, the DS 9 or the BMW iX3.
- The C5 X, which is 4.80 m long (more than a Citroën CX or a Citroën XM) will be equipped with a petrol engine and a plug-in hybrid petrol engine, also available on the Peugeot 508 launched in 2018, i.e. the two 180 hp and 225 hp versions of the 1.598 cc engine (code EP). No diesel available on this model, probably because there is no diesel engine produced in China, since this market is not demanding.
