Tesla produced 180,000 BEVs in the first quarter of 2021
Tesla produced 180,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) worldwide in the first quarter of 2021, which is the equivalent to an annual rate of around 720,000 units, which would represent an increase of more than 40% in 2021 compared to 2020. Compared to Q1-2020, the increase has already reached 102% as Tesla's production did not exceed 89,000 units last year over the period. It should be noted that production in China of Tesla didn’t start yet at this time. Today, Tesla's Chinese plant produces 25,000 vehicles per month. In addition, the Berlin plant could start up before the end of the year (or early 2022), which will boost Tesla's production growth.

Tesla's sales reached 184,800 units over the same period, suggesting that there was a stock of vehicles at the end of last year, maybe over 5,000 units. The best-selling models in the first quarter of 2021 were the Model 3 and Model Y which account for 80% of Tesla's sales.

The Californian carmaker's sales targets for 2021 are 850,000 units worldwide, which would consolidate its first place in the world in the category of BEVs.

What seemed very optimistic a few years ago is about to happen: Tesla is on track to sell a million electric vehicles by 2022.
