Sales by segments in Europe and China in 2022: focus on PHEVs
- Inovev compared the segmentation of Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles (PHEV) sold in Europe and China in 2021 and 2022.
- The A-segment of PHEVs does not exist because no carmaker offers plug-in hybrids on small cars either in China or in Europe.
- The B-segment does not exist in China, but it does exist in Europe while being very marginal, representing only 5% of PHEV sales in 2021 as in 2022.
- C-Segment is significant in China, accounting for 29% of PHEVs in 2021 and 34% in 2022, and much larger in Europe, accounting for 51% of PHEVs in 2021 and 54% in 2022.
- The D-segment is predominant in China, 59% in 2021 and 52% in 2022, but we observe a decline in 2022 which benefits two-thirds for the C-segment (+5%) and one third for the E-segment (+2 %). In Europe, the D segment is important but less strong than the C-segment, as it represents 28% in 2021 and 26% in 2022.
- The E-segment of PHEVs is less important, both in China and in Europe, as it represents only 12% of PHEVs in China in 2021 and 14% in 2022, and about the same in Europe, with 16% in 2021 and 15% in 2022.
- In the end, the PHEV market is a mid-size car market, the C and D segments representing 80% of its sales in Europe in 2022, and up to 86% in China in 2022.
