BEVs represent 8% of the US market in 2023
- Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEV) continued to grow in the USA in 2023, but at a slower pace than what we observe in China or Europe. In 2023, 8% of sales on the US market are battery electric vehicles, compared to 6% in 2022, 3% in 2021 and 2% in 2020. We are still far from the figures recorded in Europe for example, but growth is continues and 10% market share could be reached in 2024.
- Full-hybrid models (HEV-F) represent 7% of sales on the US market in 2023, compared to 5% in 2022, 5% in 2021 and 3% in 2020. Finally, plug-in hybrid models (PHEV) represent only 2 % of sales in 2023, compared to 1% in 2022, in 2021 and 2020. These models are in little demand among American customers.
- Thermal models (petrol, diesel) and MHEV still represent the vast majority of sales in 2023, around 83%, but their share is decreasing from year to year. Indeed, these models represented 88% of the US market in 2022, 91% in 2021 and up to 94% in 2020. Their share is decreasing slowly but surely.
- Pick-ups are the vehicles that have the most difficulties to switch electric motorisations: 24,165 Ford F-Series Lightning sold in 2023 out of 750,789 F-Series (3.2% of sales) and 4,767 Chevrolet Silverado EVs out of 543 780 Silverado (0.9% of sales).
