Inovev forecasts 100,000 units per year of the new Mercedes GLC EQ SUV
Mercedes unveiled its new all-electric D-segment SUV, the GLC EQ, at the Munich Motor Show. It could have been called the EQC, as it essentially replaces the previous EQC, which was discontinued in 2023. Like BMW, which offers two different body styles for the same model with both internal combustion and electric powertrains, Mercedes is following suit by offering two distinct body styles for the GLC with an internal combustion engine and one with an electric motor. The new GLC EQ is completely different from the combustion-engine GLC because it is built on an entirely new 800-volt platform called MB.EA and does not share any body panels with the combustion-engine GLC. It is 13 cm longer, 2 cm wider, 1 cm lower, and features a completely new interior.

The new GLC EQ, measuring 4.85 m long, 1.91 m wide and 1.64 m high, is 7 cm longer than the new BMW iX3 and 8 cm longer than the Audi Q6 e- tron. Interestingly, its sloping roofline almost gives it the appearance of a coupe SUV.

The Mercedes GLC EQ, positioned below the EQE SUV and EQS SUV in the Stuttgart carmaker's lineup, features two electric motors (one on each axle) producing a combined 490 hp (360 kW). Its 94 kWh battery provides a range of 713 km according to the WLTP cycle. This is slightly less than the BMW iX3 (800 km) but more than the Audi Q6 e-tron (625 km).

The Mercedes GLC EQ will be produced in Bremen, Germany, for models sold in Europe, and in China for those sold locally. It is possible that models sold in North America will be produced in the United States, as Mercedes recently announced that GLCs sold in that region will be produced there starting in 2027. In total, Mercedes is expected to produce 100,000 units of the Mercedes GLC EQ per year, with 30,000 destined for Europe.
