Context

Smart was created in Europe by Mercedes in 1998 on the ruins of the Swatchmobile and its production was concentrated on this continent until 2024. It was carried out around very small A-segment cars, mainly the Fortwo and Forfour , which had some success in Europe.
In 2020, an agreement was signed between Mercedes and the Chinese company Geely to design and produce the new Smart cars in China . These are electric and larger than the previous Smart models, as they are positioned more in the B and C segments.
A-segment Fortwo , renamed #2 , at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show, with sales slated to begin in China and Europe by the end of 2026. European customers have been eagerly awaiting this two-seater model, as the previous Fortwo city car sold over two million units between 1998 and 2024 and was never replaced. The new Smart #2 will be fully electric and is expected to retain the same design philosophy as the previous Fortwo .
Even more surprising is the unveiling of the #6, a large hatchback sedan a far cry from the brand's original philosophy. This luxury sedan measures 4.90 meters long, with a wheelbase of 2.93 meters. It's the largest model in the brand's history. This new model is a PHEV based on a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, and not a fully electric model like the other Smart cars currently available.
